Lenten Project

Gliding Around the World in 40 Days: Creating Change with Change!
Lent began on Ash Wednesday. During Lent we spend forty days drawing closer to God and preparing for the great celebration of Easter through:
Prayer – We pray for others in the global church. We reflect on what type of person God calls us to be, and we ask for His guidance in living up to our potential.
Fasting – We fast, or give things up, as a reminder to remove things in our lives that get in the way of our relationship with God. Fasting also reminds us of those who experience hunger. God calls each of us to care for those who are in need. (Fasting can be from things [like a video or game rental] or from a particular treat [like fast food or sweet] or something we enjoy [like television]. This is a personal decision.)
Giving – We give alms (charity - something given freely to help the poor) with a spirit of generosity to our brothers and sisters in need, honoring Jesus’ call to serve our neighbors. This Lent, through our sacrifices, we help to empower and transform the lives of individuals, families, and communities around the world. We create "A Hunger to end Hunger!"
Creating Change with Change!
Our Lady of the Lake Regional Catholic School students and staff will participate in our fourth annual two-part Lenten Project. This two-part project incorporates helping both globally and here at home (our school).
Part I of our project helps those around the world who are in need through Catholic Relief Services Operation Rice Bowl. CRS Rice Bowl offers an experience that engages students throughout the season of Lent, helps to broaden their understanding of our Catholic faith and deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church. Throughout Lent we learn about people from the countries in which our Rice Bowl giving helps serve.
All students are asked to participate in our global project by bringing in change each week of Lent on Wednesdays to put in our global community rice bowl. Students are encouraged to actively participate as we learn about others around the world who we are helping through this activity.
Part II of our project is helping right here at Our Lady by participating in a "labels race." Students are asked to bring in any of the labels/items listed below to earn points for their class; one point will be given for each label or item the class collects. Each week points will be tabulated in order to move their class hang glider across the map into position for our next Rice Bowl country "visit." It is exciting to see who takes the lead each week as we progress through Lent!
One point will be given for each of the following:
