In the First & Second Grade Classroom:


A first and second grade (multiage) classroom is very advantageous for the mentally, physically and emotionally developing student. Our students are given the unique opportunity to learn within their ability. We encourage them to work at their own pace. Each grade is taught the Art of Language (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, History and Religion. In each of the major content areas a variety of teaching strategies are used including:
  • Writing Workshops
  • Reading Workshops and Work Stations (Daily 5)
  • Mathematic Work Stations (Daily 5)
  • Science Exploration
  • Social Studies and Historical Hands-on Activities
  • Religious Scriptures, Prayers and Faith

Our classroom is designed to aid in the auditory, visual and tactical learning patterns by which children learn best. We use a variety of technology to enhance learning daily:
  • MP3 players, headphones and read a long books (Listening)
  • Computer/ tablets enhanced spelling, reading, mathematics, socials studies and Science (Visual, Spatial and Technological)
  • Weekly experiments viewed online with other classrooms; using clays, water, soil and sand (Tactile, Kinesthetic)
